BEHIND THE DARKNESS

    In 1970, there was one village in north eastern side of Singapore. That was an wonderful village, looks like the symbol of nature, singing birds, dancing trees, lovable weather etc., etc., About 300 to 320 families were living in that village. Sometimes people from city side came to visit this village and they were attracted by this village. Village people receiving other people with great pleasure. Tourists liked this way of approaching of these people.

    Village people had strong belief in spiritual as well as occults. They won't come outside after 7pm because of their belief in occults. They believed that, there were some evils roaming in night time. On February 21,  1965 couple Daniel & Rose came to visit this village. Daniel's friend Roshan suggest this village for their honeymoon, so they came here to visit this village. Roshan had also informed about one lodge for staying. Daniel and Rose had started to asking about that lodge to people. Village people shown the way to the lodge.

    This lodge was constructed at the period of kings. In 1802, one king who had ruled this village gifted this lodge to one poet for his lyrics. There was no family for that poet, so he decided to dedicated this lodge to village as public asset after his period. Now this lodge was in the hand of  village Panchayat.

    Daniel and Rose had reached the lodge. There were only 3 rooms in the lodge out of these 2 rooms were under maintenance work. Both of them were decided to stay in that single room. Lodge's supervisor gave room's key to them. After refreshment, Rose came out of the lodge, watching people activities. At that time, one woman named Stella came to speak with Rose.

    Stella was poor while compared to other villagers, her father also died due to chronic disease. Stella and his mother do sheep grazing and they were run their life with some income. Stella asking about Rose's native and they were sharing their family matters for sometime. Stella ask Rose, 'for what reason did you come here?'. 'We came here to make our days special' , Rose replied.

    Then Stella started to share about the horrible incidents that were arranged in two months before. She telling to Rose that, 'there were two couples who came here to visit this village, but both couples now no more, she added. 'What happened to them?', Rose asked. They were died in the nearby garden, Stella replied. They were died due to strangling. One couple died in December month after two days of visit, another couple died in January after two days of visit. Both couples were died in same place and they were stayed in this lodge only, Stella added.

    Stella said Rose that, 'Leaving this place is better for you, take care' and then she left from that place. This had created panic for Rose. Rose asking this incidents to lodge supervisor, 'yeah that had happened in two months before but don't worry we are here to protect you, you can spend your time with great pleasure, feel free' , supervisor said. 

    Rose went to her room told these incidents to Daniel. 'Don't worry babe we will stay here for two days only' Daniel said. They both were slept for long time because of tired due to travel. There was one small bell which was situated in lodge for indicate that 'food was ready to eat'. After the bell rang, Daniel and Rose had taken their bath and had their lunch. At evening they had decided to go to photoshoot. At 5pm they had dressed up and went for shoot.

    They were walked for 1km and took photos as they wanted. That area were full of trees, that dancing trees and the blowing air really attracted Rose. She loved that. 'Lovely garden' said Daniel. 'What did you say?' Rose asked. 'Lovely garden', what? what's wrong its really amazing right', Daniel said. Rose thought that, 'is this the garden that told by Stella'. Little bit fear have created in her mind. 'We have to go' Rose said. 'What Rose, we won't miss this moment, don't you like this moment?', Daniel asked. Rose said that she had pain in stomach, so she ask Daniel to go room to take rest. By understanding her situation, Daniel accepted to leave that place.

    While going to room, Rose started about the incidents again to Daniel. 'We are educated people Rose so don't believe these fucking incidents, we are here to make our days special, don't waste your time Rose, just enjoy', Daniel said. Rose's mind cannot come out from that incidents. They reached the lodge at 6.15pm, there were no persons for blindfolded distance. Actually, lodge was in the end of village and also every houses were situated 80 to 100m away from this lodge, but in morning people were roamed casually, but now both can't see a single person. 

    Daniel searching his pocket. 'What you are searching?', Rose asked. 'I have missed the key i think', Daniel said. Daniel said Rose to wait here and he went to supervisor home to get spare keys. There was one light in front of lodge, Rose standing right below this light, waiting for Daniel. All areas were surrounded by darkness except Rose's place. 'When will you leave?', the sudden voice from the backside of Rose. She got afraid and turn back suddenly, 'Stella, you?, what are you doing here?', Rose asked. 'My house was nearby only, I came to see you only, Stella replied. 'You came to see me, for what?', Rose asked. 'I came here to know about your leaving', Stella replied. 'Look Stella, we will leave day after tomorrow, don't speak about that past incidents, we will inform you at the time of leaving', Rose said. Ok Rose, take care good night, Stella said to Rose and started to leave from that place.

    Rose asked Stella that, What about the people? we cannot see a single person while compared to morning, it's just 6.30 only, where are the people?. People never come out of their house now, Stella said. 'Why?', Rose asked. People in this village had belief in occults, due to the mysterious murders of two couples had created fear to people, they thought that their souls were surrounding in this village, Stella said. 'Then, what about you? you came out now don't you believe that?', Rose asked. 'I also believed that, I came here to ask about your leaving', Stella said. 'Leave as soon as possible', Stella said and moved from that place.

    Daniel reached the lodge after getting spare keys from supervisor, both were entered into the room. Rose thought about this incidents for entire night, but Daniel didn't care about these incidents, because he don't have belief in these kind of stuffs. At 3.50am, Rose's sleep was disturbed by one type of noise. Rose waked up and listen the noise carefully, it's a foot step noise. Someone roaming outside the lodge. Rose analysed that, someone walking on the shredded leaves, so only this type of noise have created. 

    Foot step's noise stopped suddenly after light's on by Rose. She stood one side of the window and watch outside, full of darkness, she cannot see anything. She decided to go to bed. Lights were off. After 12 minutes, again foot step's noise. Rose holds Daniel's hands tightly. Once she waked up, it was morning, she didn't know when did she sleep. While get out from the bed, she saw that bed was slightly moved from wooden cot. She adjust the bed by holding underside. Rose hand's touched one thing, which was under the bed. It was a diary, a small 50 pages diary. 'Angel Mathews' written in front page. After that nothing had written any of the pages.

    Except one page, "Footstep noise behind the darkness", this was written one page. Rose were shocked while seeing this and she went downside, supervisor sitting in his place. She asked about Angel Mathews to him. 'Sorry madam, she was no more, she died in that garden in past month, but till we don't know how did she dead', he said. 'she and her husband were died due to strangling, but people never go to that side, I am sure it's the evil's work', he added.

    'Then why don't you stop us while we going to that garden', Rose asked. You are my guest mam I don't like to create fear in you, he said. Daniel heard this conversation from in front of their room, then he came near to Rose and said, 'don't worry honey today is our last to stay hear'. After taking some rest they have finished breakfast and lunch. Daniel told to Rose that, 'this is our last day so we have to take lot of photos as much possible'. Rose said, ok with little smile. She have only one intention to leave from this place.

    At 4pm, they went to the garden side and both were taking bunch of photos. At 5.30pm, Rose said to Daniel, 'ok honey, it's enough, let's move'. Daniel give camera to Rose and said, 'wait here Rose i will come'. He going to pass urine. For a long time, he won't come. Rose got afraid and go in the direction, in which Daniel went. After few meters, she saw that one person covered with cloth for entire body, who holds Daniel's neck very tightly. Rose screams loudly and ran near to them and throw stones to that person. That person decided to leave from that place. That person turn back start run from that place, at that time the cloth was got stuck in one tree's branch and the face was visible clearly to Rose. That person was Stella. Daniel managed to get up and both were ran and caught Stella.

    They brought Stella in front of village people. At that time, 'Did you kill that both couples?', Rose asked. Stella said, 'yes', village people, especially her mother got shocked. All the people asking the same questions, 'Why did you do that'? Stella's mother have full of tears in her eyes. 'Because i hate rich people', Stella said loudly. Basically she was poor so she didn't like the rich people's gesture and their behaviour. She saw that rich people only came to her village to visit, she didn't like them. She told to the rich persons who were came to visit this village, 'go back to your home this place was not safe for you. Some couples, especially couples came in December and November month didn't leave this place for 4 days. 

    So she decided to kill them and also watched their activities in night by walking around the lodge at night, she waited for the perfect time and she killed both couples and spread rumours about occults to the people. Village people have also believed that. This is the drama by Stella and now it was known to all people. Stella stand in front of panchayat for her murders. Rose and Daniel went to their native in next day.
